4,545 pass 2004 S&T scholarship exam

Department of Science and Technology Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro disclosed that  21.33 percent or 4,545 high school graduates passed the S&T scholarship examination last November.  The successful examinees may now avail of the benefits under RA 7687 or S&T scholarship law, and DOST-Science Education Institute merit scholarships.  A total of 21,305 applicants nationwide took the scholarship examination.

There are 4,193 students qualified under RA 7687 Scholarships and 352 qualifiers under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarships.  Recipients for both scholarship programs are entitled to government paid school fees, book and transportation allowances, and monthly stipend.

The new scholars will receive notices of scholarship award from DOST-SEI along with information on the schedule for scholarship contract signing and orientation with parents.  Documents required for contract signing are original and clear photocopy of birth certificate, accompanying parent's 2004 residence certificate or cedula, and P50 notarization fee.

DOST's Science Education Institute administers the S&T scholarship programs designed as a capacity-building strategy to boost the country's human resource in the sciences and engineering.

Scholars are also developed and prepared for leadership, high performance, and future employment through training, job fairs, and referrals.

        The list of new scholars are now available online through www.science-scholarships.ph.   The names of qualifiers with question(s) on citizenships are withheld for verification.
