The Philippine Science High School is laying the grounds for the creation of an e-community to foster a more supportive and productive online environment.

Dubbed as PSHS E-Community-based project, it specifically aims to create a database management system for its faculty and students that would allow information sharing efficiently.

PSHS system Director Ramon Miranda said that the project also intends "to serve its clients nationwide by networking its regional campuses."

The project will initially be implemented in the main campus in Diliman, Quezon City.  It is expected to roll out in the following year to regional campuses in Bicol, Western and Eastern Visayas, Cagayan Valley, Southern Mindanao, and Ilocos region.

The establishment of the PSHS e-community promises to provide clients speedy communication, improved performance, and security in each campus.

The e-community project covers the creation of registration system, report card system, and student performance system for efficient and swift processing of the students' academic needs.

The Department of Science and Technology allocated P3.091 M for the project expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2004.

PSHS, which leads in secondary science and technology education in the Philippines also maintains other electronic systems such as freshmen admission, PSHS website, and library access.

"With the e-community, we hope not only to develop, foster and build interaction but also improve services and information delivery to our colleagues, students, and clients", Dr. Miranda said

DOST's Philippine Council for Advanced Science and Technology Research and Development serves as the monitoring agency for the project.
