Cagayan de Oro hosts DOST-Mindanao Cluster S&T Fair

THE Department of Science and Technology- Mindanao Cluster S&T Fair was held at the Grand Caprice Convention Center, Cagayan de Oro on October 27-30, 2003.  It featured S&T exhibits of DOST councils, research and development institutes, and service institutes.  PCAMRD showcased technologies on vermicomposting, freshwater aquarium fish culture, and giant freshwater prawn culture.

Assistant provincial administrator Calvin Acut representing Misamis Oriental Governor Antonio P. Calingin, and lawyer Mari-Ann Chavez-Enteria representing Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente Y. Emano welcomed the participants to Cagayan de Oro, the “City of Golden Opportunities” during the opening ceremonies. 

Enteria said that “the assistance of the DOST, especially in terms of linkaging or “pakidugtung” in the local dialect, will go a long way in assisting small and medium enterprises in Mindanao.” 

DOST Regional Director Brenda L. Nazareth also stressed that science and technology is an important tool for the Mindanaoans to come up with products comparable to those in Luzon.   DOST Assistant Secretary Maripaz L. Perez delivered the keynote address in behalf of DOST Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro.

The four-day S&T fair also featured a seminar on geological hazards, technology and investors' fora, and intellectual property management forum.  Products from other parts of Mindanao went on sale at the techno bazaar.
