International symposium on integrated An international symposium-workshop on integrated water and fisheries resources management in developing countries was held last September 20-22 in Calamba City, Laguna. Dubbed as IWFRM 2004, the conference brought together water and fisheries resources specialists, policy makers, and other stakeholders from different regions to establish principles, share best practices and experiences, and formulate action programs for the efficient management of water and fisheries resources in developing countries. Participants included eminent scientists from France, Germany, Sri Lanka, the United States, and Southeast Asia. Dr. Bryan Duncan, director of the International Center for Aquaculture and Aquatic Environments delivered the keynote address. IWFRM 2004 is co-sponsored by the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development, and SEAMEO Regional Center for Agriculture Graduate Study and Research in cooperation with the National Academy of Science and Technology, University of the Philippines at Los Baños, Laguna Lake Development Authority, and the Philippine Fisheries Association.
