DOST—NRCP book donation to Pasay public schools

The National Research Council of the Philippines donated several sets of Philippine Science Encyclopedia to 27 public schools in Pasay City through Congresswoman Consuelo A. Dy, who represents the city's lone congressional district.

Each school received six volumes of PSE, six volumes medical series, eight volumes of S&T research journals, 16 volumes of S&T related publications, and 324 copies of basic research brochures.

The PSE has separate volumes on biology, chemistry, education, engineering/industry, Philippine government, and society.  The medical series focus on human cells, human body parts, and different functions of human organs, bacteria, viruses, and worms.

The volumes covering S&T research journals are compilations of basic researchers and breakthroughs done by Filipino scientists in biotechnology, microbiology, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, environment, hazard mitigation, anthropology, education, social sciences, among others.

NRCP Executive Director Paciente A. Cordero, Jr. turned the publications over to Cong. Dy at the agency's Valenzuela Hall in Bicutan, Taguig Oct. 29.

Students in the recipient schools will easily understand and relate to the contents of the publications because all were written by Filipino scientists based on Philippine setting and context, NRCP said in a statement.

This endeavor is NRCP's contribution to the Department of Science and Technology's goal of developing S&T culture among the youth through the enhancement of primary and secondary schools' library holdings particularly on science, technology, and research, NRCP added.

Other recipients of DOST—NRCP' publication grants this year include schools in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, the lone districts of Southern Leyte and South Cotabato, and the Ifugao State University.
