NSTW 2005 went live over the internetThe 47th National Science and Technology Week celebrations was viewed on the Internet in streaming video through RealOne Media Player that accessed rtsp://202.90.128.20:554/encoder/nstw05.rm to watch the events. A videoconference between media and DOST Secretary Estrella Alabastro and other key officials was held on the opening day, a tradition that started in 2003. DOST regional offices also participated in two meet-the-press videoconferences. The first session included DOST-ROs V, VII, and VIII, while the second session covered those in Regions XI, XII, and CARAGA. The streaming and videoconference were made possible through the Philippine Research, Education, and Government Information Network (PREGINET), the country’s National Research and Education Network (NREN), which is one of DOST flagship projects. It is implemented by DOST’s Advanced Science and Technology Institute, which does research and development on information and communications technology, and microelectronics. In last year’s NSTW celebration held mainly in Legazpi City, ASTI also connected and coordinated interactive discussions between DOST officials and scientists, and the media from Regions 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 including the Cordillera Autonomous Region, and CARAGA. Remote participants viewed the event, asked questions, and exchanged information through point-to-point transmission. The NSTW is an annual DOST-led event that aims to highlight its efforts in technology support to small and medium enterprises, poverty alleviation, and human resource development. This year’s celebration returned to the Philippine Trade and Training Center along Sen. Gil J. Puyat Ave. cor. Roxas Blvd. , Pasay City.
