Gawad LIDER in Science EducationThe Department of Science and Technology’s Science Education Institute will implement a recognition and incentive program for individuals or groups that contribute to the development and improvement of science education through continuous leadership or development of S&T-based innovation or inventions. The SEI program is called Gawad LIDER in Science Education. LIDER means Leadership and Innovations for Development and Reforms. The planned biennial award will hold the recognition ceremony for winners during the National Science and Technology Week celebration next year. Gawad LIDER in Science Education’s objectives are (a) to identify individuals or groups who possess the vision and creativity to motivate others to meet educational challenges; (b) identify outstanding innovations or inventions using S&T to improve education; (c) recognize individuals or groups who showed sustained exemplary leadership in science education and to individuals or groups who have developed and introduced innovations or inventions using S&T to improve education, and; (d) inspire others to practice exemplary leadership and to innovate or invent using S&T to improve education in the country. The award has two categories, Exemplary Leadership Award and Innovation Award. Exemplary Leadership Award has individual and institution/group sub-categories. The Innovation Award is open to both individual and group. Interested parties have to be nominated and apply. Forms will be made available at the DOST Regional Offices, SEI, or online at www.gawadlider.net. Applicants to the Gawad LIDER will go through a two-stage selection process. The first stage is pre-qualification or short-listing of applicants by the board of evaluators based on relevant criteria. Qualified applicants will be informed to submit supporting documents to be evaluated in the national selection phase. Winners in the Exemplary Leadership Award will receive P100,000 and trophies while recipients of Innovation Award’s gold, silver, and bronze will get P100,000, P50,000, and P25,000.
